Transmission by Kayoll Transmission by Kayoll
Late birthday gift for *FreyFox!

Here are the gearhead red squirrel twins from his Transmission webcomic, Reggie (left) and Russell (right), and their (well, Russell's) '67 Plymouth GTX!
Finally, I drew a car in a top perspective view!

To those of you who aren't familiar with the webcomic;
"It features twin red squirrel gearheads Russ and Reg [who moved] away from their failing business in England and to a garage they inherited in California." So, yeah. They're a couple of Brits who migrated to the US to run their business, and they would have to deal with the culture of the Americans. It's almost like Rocko's Modern Life, except that there are 2 main-focus characters, the characters already have a career, there are gearhead references/lingo, and it's more mature.

Check it! [link]

Apparently, I've read most of the webcomic. I always imagine Russ being voiced by Richard Hammond (Yeah, he's done voice-acting on an animated short), and Reg being voiced by... I guess, Jason Marsden.

This has got to be the most time-consuming gift-art I've ever done. It took me more than 12 hours.
Most of my efforts are from drawing the car and fixing a bit of its perspective. You know how I do my cars; F*CKING DETAILED. I didn't use Photoshop for the lineart, I used PaintTool SAI.

Gearhead talk coming through...
Based on my research, the "GTX" logo on the Plymouth GTX's front grille doesn't show up until the '68-'70 model (2nd generation). Russ's GTX is a '67 model (1st generation)... Despite that, Russ's GTX in the original webcomic has the GTX logo on the grille... on all appearances. It was probably done on purpose, so I didn't copy every detail of the actual GTX and stick with the original artist's interpretation of the car.

Anyways, belated happy birthday, DUDE! Hope you'll like it. I EXERTED A LOT OF EFFORT THERE. :iconherpderpplz:
We should talk about cars more often...

Particular kudos for trying a rare muscle car like the GTX (they don't get the love that the Chargers do), you did a pretty good job on the proportions of it, while really impressing with the colors (I really like how you did the tires too!)! The creases of the sheetmetal and the hoodscoop details make this a fun pic indeed. :highfive: Well done and keep up the improvements, you're getting better when you try something new like this!

The GTX is a rare car? Looks like the twins found this rare beauty for a bargain.
Thank you! Even if I noticed that the interior is distorted. The center console on th-- anyway.

I'm pretty much blown away by the perspective on this, it looks fantastic, as are the details on the Plymouth, especially the front grille in all its chrome glory - I can see that you put an insane amount of time into getting this right, hats off to you man. :highfive:
Nice job on the characters too - not familiar with them of course, but your style certainly suits them.

Oh, that. Sorry, you'll have to wait 'til August 25, 2013 for that. XD
It has 3 cars in it. The car alone takes me 4-8 hours to work on! I don't have time to work on that until my school days end.

Thank you! :la:

Dude, I LOVE this so much :) It was so unexpected. I LOVE it whenever I get fanart of these guys, and you have done a top job! This pic is now my current desktop :)

I am very taken by the attention to detail you put into Russell's car. The '67 Plymouth GTX is my favourite muscle car and after seeing this picture [link] I KNEW I had to make it that shade of red. Reggie's car on the other hand is a grey late 90s Subaru Impreza, but it doesn't appear as often, though it will appear in the upcoming strip #62 ;)

We should chat sometime ^^ Do you use MSN?

YAY! Thank you! :iconlawooplz:
Of course, if it involves cars, I'd definitely put a lot of effort on it!
I love it when the people I give use my gift-art as their desktop wallpaper. It's so flattering. :iconteheplz:
Argh! I should've stick with the 4:3 format, with the characters placed on the left (which is what I thought originally) but it looked awkward.

Yeah, but without the black top. It looks kinda cool with it.
I thought the twins only had one car... Yes, I know about Reggie's Impreza... which I thought he rented, because it didn't make appearances after Russ's GTX came.
Yay! I'll look forward to it. :la:

No, I use Skype. :/
You got a Facebook account? If you have, what's your e-mail? Maybe we could chat there, too. :)

One last thing;
I actually looked for the font used on the "Transmission" logo (because the one on the webcomics site is too small, and if I asked you for a larger version logo; this wouldn't be a surprise anymore). Was "Flying Leatherneck" the font you used? It has a very close resemblance.

The more I see your art the more I envy your skills. >.<

I really really like the details you put into cars, and like here its still got all that detail but doesnt seem out of place with the characters because the way you did the lines and colors. It just fits ya know? And I also still really like the way you do faces. I cant tell what specifically it is they are just good.

I'd say the same to your art style. WHY CAN'T I DRAW DETAILED CHARACTERS? :iconwhywouldyoudothatplz:

Well it should be! Otherwise it would look like I Photoshopped a character there... Oh, wait, I did use Photoshop (for coloring). lol XDD
Thank you! :D

Au contraire. [link] [link]
I meant... character design-wise. Okay, maybe the sketch of Ralph and Herb is at the same par as my level of detailing on my characters.

Also, I'm not good at folds and creases on clothes. I actually downloaded a tutorial on how to draw them but I don't always seem to be in the mood to read and practice them. :I

I am getting better at folds in clothing but I kind of usually just get lazy and use my imagination rather than looking at an actual ref to get an idea of what it is Im trying to do. But yeah. Thanks! :D But like characters like Lyon have so many details and stuff on their clothing. all the little suit flaps and badges and stuff. >.<
